Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga: Learning the Basics
Yoga has been popular for a long time already, although it is notable how it has transitioned in the previous years as a result of various technologies and studies. It has evolved into a more comprehensive discipline, and different variations have been introduced in line with its respective goals. One of the types of yoga backed with an extensive history is known as Iyengar yoga, which is now popular all over the globe. There are different centers in different countries introducing the techniques of this type of yoga and how it can be beneficial in ways more than one.
What is Iyengar Yoga?
This is considered to be one of the most ancient forms of yoga, which is believed to have been developed for almost 75 years. It is a form of Hatha yoga and is focused on the comprehensive focus on both posture and breathing control. It is also based on the importance of the physical alignment of the body during the different poses made. It is also working on the principle of consistency, with the belief that each individual will be able to attain perfect poses as long as it is practiced continuously. Another notable thing about Iyengar yoga is the presence of more than 200 classical asana or posture and 14 variations of pranayama or breathing control.
The Use of Props
Several innovative approaches have been introduced to make Iyengar yoga attuned with the changing times. One of the perfect examples of such is the use of props, as in the case of blankets, pillows, bolsters, and chairs, among others. The props used will largely vary depending on the studio where you are doing Iyengar yoga. The props, aside from their functionality, are also beneficial in terms of making routines more motivating and preventing boredom. In spite of the props that are used, it is still paramount to maintain alignment and consistency with every pose. Because of this, more than the props, it is also important to put an emphasis on the right kind of clothing to make you feel as comfortable as possible during your routine while maximizing the possible benefits you can reap from this kind of yoga.
Is Iyengar Yoga Perfect for You?
Iyengar yoga is adaptable to all skill levels, but the practice is not going to be relatively easy. Because of this, it is recommended only for advanced yogis or those who have been practicing yoga for a long time already. This will surely be appreciated by people who have the penchant for technical details and creativity, especially because there are props involved. There are many classes available, depending on the area where you live, which will make it easier for you to learn this type of yoga.
